It’s a Miracle It Wasn’t Worse is both a revealing slice of social history and an intimate account of how I unconsciously resisted the life path I thought I was following and, by way of escape, began constructing and even living alternate realities. Some of this wasn’t healthy-minded, but may have produced a state of mind that, years later, enabled me to conceive of the concept and write the prototype book for the original Choose Your Own Adventure series.
