Another Marker

Reading David French’s online New York Times column this morning, I learned that an X account named “End Woke” has 3.7 million followers.  I thought, “There’s another  maarker.” Indeed, it is.  if you’re following the news, you run across dozens every day — markers of the degraded state of our  culture.”Woke” once meant awareness of and sensitivity to the thoughts and feelings of others. “Keep your awakening alive all day long,” the Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh counseled. Now, for legions whose brains heve become slag heaps of MAGA-think, “woke” is  another handy projectile of opprobrium.
