Emerging from overwhelming disruptions in my personal life and in my country’s life, turning to –– at least giving a sidelong glance at –– the foul flood of events, among the latest, “U.S. sides with Russia against Ukraine war resolution,” twisted lyrics come to mind:

It’s a grand old flag,
It’s a high flying flag,
Why tattered and stained
Has not been explained.
