Parallel Perspectives

A recent advisory from Robert Reich was titled “The Moral Bankruptcy of the American Leadership Class.” He was referring to political leaders, CEOs of powerful companies, Silicon Valley magnates, partners of prestigious law firms, university presidents, religious leaders, and octopusal media owners, many of them cowed by Trumpian pressure, guard rails of  society that turned out to be made of tin. 

Many Germans look back with bafflement at how the country that produced Bach and Goethe succumbed to rule by Hitler and his enabling thugs.  Americans may someday look back with bafflement at how the country that produced Washington and Lincoln surrendered to Trump and his enabling thugs.
